Caledonian Canal: Extension to closure period April 2019
Posted on
Please be advised that the Caledonian Canal will now re-open for sea to sea transits on
Wednesday 17th April 2019
Engineers working on the lock gate replacement works at Kytra and Fort Augustus have encountered some unexpected issues with the historic fabric of the lock chambers. It will now not be possible to meet the originally planned 8th April re-opening date for Kytra and Fort Augustus. Scottish Canals now expect Kytra and Fort Augustus locks to re-open to boat traffic at 8.30am on Wednesday 17th April 2019.
Whilst other areas of the canal remain unaffected and will be operational from 25th March, 7 days a week, 8.30am – 5.30pm, sea to sea transits will not be possible until Wednesday 17th April 2019.
Whilst works are ongoing Scottish Canals have limited lock keeping staff available therefore boaters wanting to make use of the open sections of the canal from the 25th March should please book ahead with a minimum of 24hours notice. To book boat movements, call Clachnaharry sea lock on 07920 237331 or Corpach sea lock on 07917 348025.
